Welcome to Surviving Seniors

Updated: Oct 7, 2023

Nancy and I are so excited to finally put into action this idea we’ve been entertaining for years. Surviving Seniors started out as texts between friends, swapping sad, frustrating and sometimes funny stories about our parents’ aging process. We also offered advice, commiserated, and acted as a sounding board for each other when things got dark.

Neither of us could really believe that we’d gotten to this point in life – two Gen Xers still raising kids, now faced with trying to help our parents navigate through the last part of their lives. We started to think about how many other people were out there, possibly in the same spot as us, or those just starting on this journey of eldercare. We thought, hey, if we can help each other through this crap, surely others could benefit from what we’ve learned (and are still learning) along the way.

Although the information and stories we share can benefit anyone with aging seniors in their lives, it will be especially helpful to those among us who are going into this with little or no experience with eldercare. In our own lives, we had to navigate through so much information to find solutions that worked for our parents, and made lots of wrong turns along the way. We're hoping Surviving Seniors will help you avoid that with practical tips and expert advice that we translate for non-medical professionals. And, because so much of this is physically and emotionally taxing, we intend to help you find ways to laugh and feel supported by a community of people going through similar trials in their lives.

From interviews with Alzheimer’s researchers to adult diaper tutorials, we hope to make this challenging time of life a little less difficult and lonely.

So, welcome to the jungle, baby. No judgments, no shame. Just love and laughs and loads of empathy. We’re in this together.

xo,

Jen and Nancy
