Family is Prickly
I'm the youngest of three siblings. Dad has dementia and mom is slowly becoming less able to handle their household. I'm also a stay-at-home-dad and my family 'has more money' than my siblings, who are ten and eleven years older. When the time came to move my parents closer, it was toward me. I became the de-facto caregiver. Now my kids are mostly out of the house, my wife and I have prepared ourselves for financial independence, and we want to live on a sailboat for a few years. Needless to say, my mom and siblings are shocked, despite the preparation we have done for them. Will my guilt and childhood trauma issues lead me to continue sacrificing for my family, or will I find the strength to help empower us all toward a future that is good for everyone?
